Ductless Heat for Rooms That Need It Most
Some rooms never feel warm enough. Others have no ductwork at all. A ductless heating system solves both problems. It sends heat straight into the room through a slim wall unit. There are no ducts to install and no ducts to lose heat through.
Metro Air Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electrical has helped Twin Cities families stay warm since 1981. We install and service ductless systems in Minneapolis, New Prague, Prior Lake, Savage, and the rest of the Southwest Metro. This page explains how ductless heat works and who it fits. It also points you to the right service when you are ready.

How a Ductless Heating System Works
A ductless system has two main parts. An outdoor unit sits outside your home. One or more indoor units mount on your walls. A thin line set runs between them through a small hole in the wall.
The system is a type of heat pump. It pulls heat from outdoor air and moves it inside. Even cold air holds some heat. Modern cold climate models use inverter technology. They speed up or slow down to match what the room needs. This keeps the temperature steady instead of swinging up and down. In summer, the same system runs in reverse and cools the room.
Is Ductless Heating Right for Your Home?
Ductless heat is a strong fit in several common situations.
- You finished a basement, attic, or garage with no ductwork.
- You built an addition or sunroom.
- One room stays cold no matter how high you set the furnace.
- Your older home has no ducts and runs on baseboard heat.
- You want to stop using space heaters.
- You want separate temperature control on each floor.
Our Ductless Heating Services
Metro Air handles every stage of owning a ductless system. Each service has its own page with more detail.
Ductless Heating Installation
A good install starts with the right size. We measure the room, check insulation and windows, and talk about how you use the space. Then we recommend a single zone or multi-zone setup. Learn more about our mini-split installation process before you book.
Ductless Heating Repair
Ductless systems are reliable, but problems can still happen. Common signs include weak heat, odd noises, water leaks, and error codes. Our techs diagnose the issue and explain your options first. Visit our mini-split repair page to see what we fix.
Ductless Heating Maintenance
Dust and debris cut ductless efficiency over time. A yearly tune-up cleans the coils and filters and checks refrigerant and drainage. It also helps your system last longer and run better through winter.
Ductless Heating vs. a Forced Air Furnace
Both systems can keep your home warm, but they work differently. A furnace burns fuel and pushes hot air through ducts. It heats the whole house from one unit. Ductless heat moves heat with electricity and sends it straight into each room. Each zone has its own controls.
