Ways You Can Keep Your HVAC Unit Clean

Summer is a challenging time for your HVAC system in Florida because of the unrelenting heat. However, the transitional seasons – fall and spring – can make your HVAC system work just as hard. The wild fluctuations of temperatures (it could be 55 in the morning but 85 in the afternoon) can wreak havoc on your system.

A little simple maintenance can help your HVAC system adjust to the changing seasons. Use this guide to learn some of the things you can do to prep your HVAC system to keep you and your family comfortable.

Clean Your Condenser

The condenser is the outdoor part of your unit that does a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to heating and cooling. The fins of this unit, which are often located behind a metal grill or grate, can get very dirty over time, making your AC and heat system work a lot harder. This puts the system at risk and costs you more money in the long run.

The best way to clean these is to shut the condenser unit off and use a vacuum to get rid of dirt and debris. Use a soft attachment on your vacuum to avoid bending the fins of your condenser unit, which may impede function.

Check for Debris

Debris is another major problem that can get in the way of proper functioning when it comes to your HVAC unit.

Check for debris like fallen leaves, sticks and other things from your yard that can clog your AC and heating unit, and clear them away. Using an outdoor broom and rake can help with this process. Avoid using a leaf blower since it can actually push debris further inside your system.

Get a Professional Inspection

Inspecting your air conditioning system on your own is a good start toward ensuring that it will be ready for the transitions. However, even the handiest homeowner might not be able to spot with their untrained eye everything that a professional can.

As the seasons change, call in the pros for a thorough inspection. This will ensure optimal efficiency and keep you and your family comfortable throughout the changing seasons.
