Your Furnace Checklist for Winter
December 7, 2021
- Keep vents clear: The vents around your home should be clear and unobstructed. Blocked vents not only keep warm air from entering your home, but it makes the furnace work harder than it has to. It also causes uneven temperatures in your home which can make it cold and uncomfortable.
- Clean and replace your filters: Cleaning or changing your air filters is one of the easiest home maintenance tasks you can do. Unfortunately, many homeowners forget about this or simply don’t recognize the importance. Clean air filters not only help prolong the life of your system, but they help you save energy and keep your utility bills more affordable. For one-inch filters, change them every one to two months. For four-inch media filters, we recommend changing them every 3-6 months.
- Call the professionals: Some furnace maintenance items should only be completed by licensed HVAC professionals. Our trained team will inspect blowers, indoor coils, ducts, and other parts that could be blocked. We will also ensure that your gas connections, heat exchanger, and all other electrical components of the machine are working properly. During a routine maintenance appointment, we clean or inspect over 30 individual items. That means you can rest knowing your system is running as it should, and you can rely on it all winter long.
